Women, the most responsible teenager in the house

From Alpha Up Wiki

An essay from the "No Ma'am" men's-rights blog, long featured on r/TheRedPill's reading list, arguing that women mature quickly but stop sooner than men, and that relationships work best when the man leads, as a parent leads a teenager.

The maturity argument

  • Girls mature faster than boys, physically and mentally. The essay says this is because a woman must be ready to care for children soon after puberty.
  • It claims women largely stop maturing around 18, while men catch up by about 28 and keep developing, hence "the most responsible teenager in the house". It cites the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (On Women, 1851) and the psychologist William James (Principles of Psychology), who described a young woman's character as "finished" early while a young man's stays flexible longer and grows more capable.
  • It also argues that strong emotion crowds out reasoning, and that women spend more time in an emotional state, linked to caring for babies who communicate through feeling.

Teenager-like patterns it describes

"What's mine is mine, what's yours is ours"
Like a teen who calls the family car "ours" but his own purchases "his".
"Right now I feel like…"
Plans and promises that change, like a teenager's career plans. The essay suggests mentally adding "right now I feel like" to big declarations.
Testing boundaries
Like children, the essay argues, women test limits (see Shit Tests 101) and settle down once they know a man will hold firm.
The order of love
"Men love women, women love children, children love puppies": love flows downward, and comes back up as respect rather than equal love. A man shouldn't expect his partner to be the one he leans on in hard times. That's his role for her, which the essay admits means a man is, on some level, always alone.

Its advice

  • Don't treat her as your therapist or emotional anchor. Be hers.
  • Treat her a bit like a "bratty little sister" in seduction: amused, unflappable, not explaining yourself when she's upset (a tactic credited to the Heartiste blog and the "Book of Pook").
  • Respect her, but lead. The essay argues "equal partnership" leads to resentment.
  • It also criticises modern marriage law for undermining the husband's role.

The author's response to critics

The author added a long note responding to critics. He points out that men aren't offended by being called less mature than women at 12–28, yet many women are offended by the reverse claim.
